When we drove up to this property for the first time, we fell in love. We knew we wanted to be in the country and not have a lot of houses around us, but the closer to the city, the harder that was to find. We were very lucky to stumble upon this beautiful secluded 6 acres. The land was actually not even for sale. We met with the owner about another piece of property that he had listed and it wasn't right for us, so after getting to know each other he offered to show us this piece of land that he was saving for the perfect sale.

Buying property was something neither of us had every done. Luckily my mom is in the lending business and she was able to advise us along the way on what we needed to do to prepare. Negotiating was something I have become comfortable with in my professional field and I think it is a key element to buying property. You have to be comfortable asking questions and going back and forth so that you don't get taken advantage of and so that you and the seller are both happy. Since buying our property, we have been able to earn equity that we will be able to use when getting our construction loan that allows no down payment for our loan.

One of the biggest obstacles we have faced is getting power to the property. We have waited over a year since purchasing our land to start building. When we purchased it, water was already set, so we were told and also assumed power would be easily accessible. My advice is to make the extra call and confirm those things before finalizing the purchase. We have had to be patience waiting for power to get down our road, but it is finally here and we can begin building.
